Calm (HUNT) Empty
PostSubject: Calm (HUNT)   Calm (HUNT) I_icon_minitimeWed May 15, 2013 7:14 pm

The forest was unusually quiet, the howling winds from the sea were still. The typhoon forest was silent and calm, no bird sang, nothing stirred. Tray barely breathed as he silently walked through the forest, ghosting from shadow to shadow like a midnight spirit. He was one with the land his green coat of many shades breaking up his form, allowing him to vanish, even the most careful observer would have had a hard time picking his lithe form out from the rest of the forest. He was a master of stealth, one minute he would be by your side, the next he would be gone only to appear again in front of you an amused grin upon his face. He had separated from the rest to track down the beast, for a good ten minutes he had been stealthily following the beast as it hunted now he was circling around he had found the area where the Chimera had killed it’s prey the blood trail was still fresh, now he was carefully approaching the site where it had settled down to eat. Settled underneath a low hanging bow of a tree in the shadows, quickly becoming apart of the bush behind him. His bright green eyes took in the scene before him narrowing in displeasure.

The two heads of the beast were down, its eagle talons digging into the flesh as it ripped the body of the deer apart. The jackal head lifted as the bobcat head continued eating, its orange eyes looking directly at Tray. The young man did not move even though every instinct said run, he knew that if he did he’d be seen. He trusted completely in his cloak and as usual it didn’t let him down as the beast’s eyes moved on before ducking down to tear another large piece of flesh away devouring it in one gulp. It creature ruffled it’s eagle wings, protruding from the back of its lion lower half was the upper part of a poisonous serpent its head waving back and forth in lazy circles. Silent hisses of pleasure escaped its mouth as it scent the air with its tonuge not once picking up Tray’s scent from downwind. Tray waited several more seconds to allow the beast to grow comfortable before he silently slipped away.

Returning to the group Tray seemingly appeared out of nowhere a happy smile upon his face. “I’ve found the Chimera.” He said, dropping into a crouched position the bow and quiver upon his back shifting. “it’s about 60 or so meters from here, tit‘s a powerful creature.” He proceeded to tell them about the chimera and it‘s recent kill. When he was finished he looked up at them. “So,” placing his elbows on his legs his hand hanging limply. “-what’s the plan?” He was all for the group hunt, although he was rather annoyed that Jacob had come along, the boy was untrained, unskilled in the way of the hunt he only hoped that he didn’t give himself and everyone else away with his unskilled foot steps. H trusted that Avenra could be quiet, she was his sister after and would have the basic skills of stealth at her aid. He was unsure of Aurelia and so he waited to judge her place among the skill level later.

He waited for the others to talk and suggest ideas as he himself thought. “The land where the creature is hold up is position here,” He began, drawing in the dirt. “-the chimera is near a rise in the land, it is a cliff and because of the trees it won’t be able to fly over it. However we can still see it from that area, we could position an archer up there to fire from there to help cover use when it tries to attack someone who is bellow. I can hit the snake head, we’d want to get rid of it first since it is so poisonous if we get bit by it I am afraid we wouldn’t survive. If we can keep it pinned against the cliff face and from getting to more open ground where it can take to the skies we may have a chance at killing it.” he looked at Jacob wondering how useful Jacob would be, he knew he could throw a knife with surprising accuracy, if he couldn’t hit the snake head then maybe he or Aurelia could. They would have to careful while fighting close quarters with three heads it’d have a farther range of vision then they.

Avena had swords while everyone else had long range weapons, he was perfectly fine with going in close quarters with her he would trust Jacob and Aurelia to back them up from afar and keep the beast pinned while they attacked with blades. It would certainly be an interesting hunt. He smiled at the thought, he always loved a challenge and would honor the creature once it was slain through various things. He once again waited silently he was apart of the team so that meant they all had to give input. The chimera would be occupied with his meal for a long time, it would devour all of it fur, bone, everything would be gone before it would leave to hunt again.

Aurelia followed a few paces behind Tray, her footsteps muffled in the unusually quiet forest. Her quiver full of arrows rested across her back, and she held her bow in her hand. She had two daggers, each strapped to the inside of a knee high boot. Her light brown hair was pulled back in a braid that reached the small of her back. As Tray left her and the others to track down the animal she leaned against a tree, fingering her bow string. She wasn't quite comfortable being alone with the others yet.

Her head snapped up at the voice of Tray announcing he had found the chimera. He crouched and told the small crew in detail of the creature, illustrating quite clearly it's size and power. How fun. She listened attentively as he told them of a tentative plan, agreeing that taking out the snake head would be a good place to start. She really didn't feel like dieing yet.

Her head tilted to the side when Tray finished, taking everything into consideration. His plan was a good one, especially the parts about keeping the creature cornered. It would be dangerous, but not as dangerous as letting out into the open would be, where it would have more moving space.

"That sounds reasonable," she spoke up, crouching beside Tray. Pointing to the cliff he had drawn in the dirt she then proceeded to add her ideas. "If someone stands up here like you suggested and is able to keep the creature down, then others could come from the sides. I'm pretty sure we have two long range and two short right? Well if the long range ones stayed back and supported from afar, distracting the creature it would give the other two an opportunity to kill it. The ones who stayed back would also be able to see the whole scene, watching the creature for any attempts of escape it might make."

Jacob followed behind the others as they walked along. When Tray left, he watched Aurelia lean against a tree, before going to a tree away from her and taking a knife out of his jacket. He scanned the ground for a good rock. When he spotted one, he picked it up and began sharpening his knife with it. The boy always had to make sure his knives were in top shape, for they were the only weapon he carried with him, and the only one he knew how to use well. The 16 year old boy somewhat knew how to use a sword, but he had decided a long time ago that he would only use a sword as a last resort.

He looked up as Tray came back and crouched down, speaking and drawing a plan on the ground. He dropped the rock and swiftly put the knife back into his coat, before going over to his captain. He watched and listened as Tray and Aurelia devised a plan. The boy carefully studied the plan before speaking his input. "Perhaps since the creature is occupied with it's meal, one of us could try to sneak behind it and try to take out the tail, while the others got ready to distract the beast if it tried to attack the one aiming for the tail. But, we probably won't get a better chance than that to hit the tail, so we would want to use the one of us that has the best aim." The boy fell silent again as he waited for a reply.

Avena listened intently as the others stated their ideas on how to defeat the beast. They had all contributed good plans. After a moment in thought she decided to put in her two cents.
“I think Tray’s plan is the better way to go.” She turned to Jacob, “Though yours is a good one, it’s too risky. This creature is quick. And don’t forget the tail is a head in and of it’s own, meaning it would see you sneaking up to take it out. I’m afraid it would strike too fast for any of the other members of the group to save you, or whomever would decide to take the task.”
Fingering her swords she continued, “I believe that we should do what Tray and Aurelia have suggested. We must be stealthy and work as a team if we are to have any hope in defeating this monster.”
She folded her arms and watched her thee colleagues. She wanted to see their reactions. She didn’t want to crush the boys spirits, but the plan would never have worked. It wasn’t a bad thought, if it were another beast his plan might work. His inexperience was showing , he would need a lot more training and experience before he could lead anyone.
She hoped she hadn’t crushed the boy too bad, he was a bright kid, but why Tray had ever agreed to let him go was a mystery to her. Of course, it was also curious that he had let his “baby sister” come along as well. But she had much more experience than Jacob, and probably Aurelia as well. It was hard to say when she hadn’t known her for long. The girl’s fierce expression gave her the appearance that she had gone through many trials in her life, the bow and daggers she carried were good for hunting. She would be surprised if Aurelia had never hunted, but had she ever hunted anything this dangerous?
The captains sister was very curious to witness how her three comrades would handle this situation

I hope it makes sense, sorry it's so short.

He listened as the other added in their own opinions, Jacob's idea although the sensible was rough and lacked complete thought. If one was to lay out a plan he had to look at all the angles and try to cover as many holes as possible to avoid problems. Although they all seemed in agreement that the tail should be taken out first Jacob had overlooked the fact that the snake had a it's own pair of eyes and one could not easily get behind it unless they were trained exceptionally well. he had already gotten behind it once and could have put an arrow in the snake head then, but then he would have been all alone contending with the beast's superior strength and sense of smell. He said nothing however seeing as Avena had already pointed out the flaws. "His plan is similar to Aurelia and my own, he has a few things to learn but at least he is taking the time to think. With more experience he will make a good hunter and planner." Tray said coolly directing a friendly smile toward Jacob. he was the most unsuited for this venture, the green horn and so many would doubt his abilities.

But Tray had seen the teen's skill with his knives and knew that he could handle himself in a fight, this added experience would aid him and help him to learn and developed the skills need to survive. It would also help the others gain his trust, they all had to pull their own weight and he knew that everyone would do all they could, they just needed to prove it to each other. "We all have to learn, like you said Jacob we will make the tail our first priority, Aurelia and I will keep the beast pinned from the ridge, we both have enough arrows to last us a good while, time is the key the longer we fight with this beast the more chance it will have to escape. We will want to hit it fast and hard at first, don't give it a chance to react and we will have a better chance of survival. If that doesn't work then we will proceed to wear it down, even the most hardy of monsters cannot survive many injuries or massive blood loss. "

He met each person's gaze, held it for a few second then moved on. "Aurelia I will allow you the honor of hitting the snake head, the instant this is done the beast's attention will be on us attack the instant the arrow hits Jacob you cover Avena down bellow, come at it from two different angles keep it guessing when it focuses on one person the other attacks. We'll work as a pack, keep in mind that it still will have two heads, talons, claws, and wings, all of these will be used against you. Moon and I will add addition cover, be safe and come out of this alive." He summarized the plan, meeting each person's gaze once more when he was lining out their part in the battle plan all the while drawing in the dirt. He knew that he was placing a lot of pressure on Aurelia the snake's head was never still, it's movements were jerking an unpredictable. He had full confidence that he could hit it having taken out similar but smaller prey before, if Aurelia needed the backup he could put an arrow in the snake's head a split second after her arrow missed, however he had faith she could handle it after al she was confident with that bow of her's so he might as well give her a chance to prove that such confidence was well founded.

They would only have one shot at this, once it knew it was under attack the beast would not sit still, they could not allow it to get into the open and use the space and the sky to its advantage. "Is everyone clear on what their job is?" he waited for them to answer before standing, shrugging off the bow the familiar weapon slid easily into his hand. "Get into your positions, Avena to the right flank, Jacob take the left Aurelia come with me. And everyone, good luck." he gave Avena one final look his clear blue eyes begging her to be careful and watch Jacob before vanishing into the woods making sure he kept himself visible enough to allow Aurelia to follow without alerting the Chimera to their presence. He soon arrived atop the cliff and took up his position. they had the perfect view of the Chimera as it continued to rip into its kill, crimson stained the ground and its pelt it was almost finished with its meal they would have to move quickly. Subconsciously he quietly removed an arrow from the quiver and knocked it, if necessary he could draw and fire in a mind boggling pace all the while retaining his deadly accuracy with his skills he could take out as many men as he had arrows in less then a minute. He was an efficient killing machine a hated talent that had helped him become the leader of his pirate clan.

-OOC-

The beast will now appear, everyone get into position then have them attack in the same post the Chimera will then enter the game and attack. Remember to stay in posting order:

Tray

Aurelia listened as the others gave their input, her eyes flitting around their surroundings. Jacobs idea had potential, but it was obvious he didn't remember that the snake could also see. She didn't blame him though, it took her awhile to remember details like that about creatures.

She started a little when Tray used her last name and was not aware for a moment who he meant. She was not used to people using her last name. She nodded in agreement. She would make good use of her position of covering, and checked yet again that her quiver was full. Wear down the beast if taking it out right away doesn't work. Got it.

She stood and looked at the others before following Trays receding form. "Good luck." She murmured before jogging after the captain. He led her up a steep trail that wound between trees and bushes, yet she had no difficulty keeping him in sight. Finally after what seemed like an eternity they left the heavy cover and approached the cliff edge. Looking down, she got her first glimpse of the creature. She had to admit, it did look ferocious, and she shuddered to think of herself in the position of it's prey.

Seeing Tray knock and arrow she smiled. He was a good thinker. In the unlikely event she could not hit the snake head his arrow would find it's way a second later. Pulling out a jade tipped arrow of her own she knocked it in her bow and took aim, her slender fingers holding the string taunt.

She cursed the snake head and is jerky movements. It would be very hard to hit it. She watched it for awhile before moving her aim slightly, and waiting for the snake to be exactly where she wanted it. The moment happened and she let go of the arrow, watching it fly straight and true through the air. Another arrow was knocked in her arrow before it even hit. She would take no chances. Letting the second one fly she watched with huge satisfaction as the first arrow embedded itself in the snakes left eye, the second one in the right. She head the snake shriek in pain before it spasmed and fell limp. The creature let out a roar and she winced, shaking slightly. She might have hit some nerve in the brain. Closing her eyes she took a deep breath and knocked another arrow. Your turn.

(I am so sorry everyone! If we fail the hunt, it's all my fault)

Jacob listened to Avena, then rolled his eyes. "There are bushes, are there not? And Tray was able to sneak up on it before, was he not?" He sighed. He had forgotten to say that part, and everyone probably thought that he was an idiot now. He nodded to Tray when his captain told him where to go, then followed him a ways. But when the path started to slope upward, he turned and took his own path. After a bit, he heard a sound, and peeked through the bushes and trees to see the huge beast still feasting on it's prey. The boy continued on, slowly and quietly through the bushes. He did not have nearly as much experience as the others, but he had learned a thing or two about stealth.

When he got to spot that he thought was good enough, he stopped and readied two knives from his jacket. One of them was the one that he had been sharpening earlier. He watched the beast intently, but for a while, nothing happened. He was beginning to get worried, when he saw a flash in the air, and an arrow embedded itself into one of the eyes of the snake head, and then a second. The Chimera let out a deafening roar. Of course, the beast turned to the direction the arrows had come from, and Jacob advanced a footstep or two and waited for Avena to attack, and then it would be his turn, and he would cover her.

Avena gave a small smile bordering on a smirk when Tray stood up for the Jacob. She wanted to make a smart remark about how one should learn these things before going off on a hunt or else they'd end up dead, but she held her tongue as Tray outlined his plan. The plan was rather crude and simple, but affective. Overly complicated plans were never the way to go, there were far to many ways for it to go wrong. Tray had given a basic outline of what they needed to do, they had their objective yet it still gave them enough room to flex and adjust. If events turned out of favor then they could compensate and react to the sudden shift far easier then if  the beast changed pace while they were trying to carry out a complex strategic maneuver. More reaction time meant more chances of survival. Her sharp eye followed Tray and he lead Aurelia to their designated location. As quietly as her brother she followed behind Jacob, watching the path ahead of him to make sure he didn't somehow alert the creature with his loud footfalls. She winced with each crash of his large feet, she knew he was trying his best to be quiet, but she couldn't help but groan inwardly. It was a metrical that the entire forest didn't know of their presence. She hoped this chimera was deaf.

Surprisingly they all made it into position without a hitch, apparently the beast was too consumed in the action of consuming his food. Well wouldn't he be in for a surprise. Her eyes roamed over the giant animal's body, he was truly a ferocious monster. Her eyes trailed away from their prey and up along the cliff face until she picked out Aurelia drawing back her bow. Tray had drawn his hood over his head, with the green pattern on his cloak her brother seemed to vanish into the surrounding forest. The only reason she had found him was because he had moved slightly to drawn an arrow. Both of the sharpshooter's movements were smooth and fluid, practice had created an instinctual reaction so that neither had to even think when they drew and knocked their arrows. Her hands slipped down to clutch the hilt of her swords, but she did not draw them yet. The Sound would alert the chimera of their presence and cause them to lose the element of surprise. She waited, no longer watching the figures on the cliff but the chimera. The instant the arrow hit its tail the beast let out an ear splitting roar of pain and furry, spinning on his back feet it focused four furious eyes upon the creature who had attacked his. As it turned Avena launched out of her hiding place her swords sliding out of their sheaths as fast as striking snakes. They hissed through the air, the metal singing for blood as she launched her attack.

Aiming for the back leg she struck attempting to slice through the beast's tendons and render the leg useless before it realized she was there. Her movement were fluid the blade was as light as the wind and as cutting as death. Each blade felt familiar in her hands, and extension of her own body and she moved like a dancer upon a stage.  With the grace of a true master swordswoman Avena quickly followed up her first slash with a uppercut from her left sword with every intent of severing the beast's tail and throwing it completely off balance before she rolled away from its outstretched claws. The snakehead hung limply from the end of the tail with two arrows sticking out of it. She allowed herself a small smile as she watched the chimera waiting for its next move. She was unaware of Tray or Aurelia as they fired arrows, but she remained vaguely aware of Jacob, it was her job to look after the untrained boy. it was a slight pain, but if Tray trusted him enough to get the job done then he better be good enough to handle himself. If not she'd certainly give both of them a piece of her mind, and perhaps a healthy helping of her boot as well.

The date for this hunt as been extended due to life being a pain for everyone on here. (This will not be a regular occurrence).

The chimera's jackal head tore a large chunk a meat off of the bone and wolfed it down, just as the bobcat head bent down to take a bite pain exploded from its tail. Letting out a tremendous roar that was a horrendous combination of both a jackal, bobcat, eagle, and lion. The haunting noise startled every creature that hadn't already fled as the beast keened in pain and anger. The eyes within its tail had gone dark and it knew that the snake head was dead. Rising the monster placed all its weight on his back haunches as it whirled toward the direction a strange twanging sound had come from, its red and gold eyes picking out the form of Aurelia as she moved. Before it could react to the threat above a sudden hissing noise caught the jackal head's attention. The beast sensed someone behind it as dodged the blade letting out a snarl as the blade cut a shallow line across its back leg before yowling with pain as the second blade bit into its tail severing it completely. With the sudden loss of his tail and burst of blinding pain that clouded his eyes with flashing stars the chimera stumbled, set off balance by the loss of its tail. It could feel warm blood streaming down its legs as the blood attempted to close the wound. Even with the pain and loss of its balance aid, the chimera was quick to recover as pain and hatred toward the men who had attacked him drove him into a furry spurred on by bloodlust. He lunged at the woman with the two swords his claws racking the air where her head and been earlier as she rolled away from him. Without hesitation the beast kept up the attack his claws now aiming for her shoulder. He racked them downward attempting to use his power and claws to drag the human down, his mighty wings although useless for flight in this confined area now opened wide as he used them to beat at the human. If a blow landed it would be ling unto a brick wall slamming into you with all the hatred and force it could muster.

Suddenly the sound of twanging caught his ear as the bobcat head turned to look as a shaft pierced through its wings passing through feathers, if he had not jerked slightly when moving the chimera's wing muscles would have been hit by that arrow. Within a heartbeat five more arrows were sent sailing toward him from one angle several more from another. Leaping away the beast escaped move of the volley but two arrows met their mark one embedding itself in his flank, the other deep into the back of his neck. Suddenly the large beast was confused, he did not know which enemy to attack first. It hesitated for a moment before its eyes met that of Jacob's. This human was smaller and it didn't appear to have any weapons. With a scream the chimera lunged toward him, within that moment two arrows hit him one in the wing the other piercing one of the jackal head's ear. The sudden attack caused the beast to falter but he continued his charge toward Jacob both jaws gaping open yearning to rip the insolent human to shreds.

Wounds: A cut on its left back leg, severed tail that is bleeding profusely, an arrow it its right flank and back of the neck, an arrow it its with just above the shoulder, a tear it the jackal head's right ear.
Dodges: Half dodged Avena's first attack, half dodged the volley of arrows, did not dodge the second attack from arrows.
Attacks: Attempted attack on Avena slashing downward in an attempt to not only cut her but buckle her legs then it proceeds to try and beat her with its wings. Lunges at Jacob with every intent of killing him.

He keen eyes watched Aurelia's first arrow from their peripheral vision, and the instant it launched toward the chimera he new that its aim was true. He no longer watched as the woman fired hearing the twang of the bow as she sent another arrow after the first. The chimera's blood chilling scream told him that she had hit her mark and his eyes caught Avena moving in for a attack. Picking up on her charge the chimera dodged, but it had failed to avoid Avena's second blow and lost its tail. Another scream caused Tray's ears to ring but he paid the discomfort no mind. Tray's heart nearly stopped when the monster turned in Avena, for a less experienced bowman this would have caused them to freeze up, but not Tray. With an action  that came to him as easily and naturally as breathing he drew aimed and fired, drew aim then fired, within a split second he had sent a small volley of arrows from his side of the cliff toward the beast. With horror her watched it move, it was fast as it attacked her time and again. The twanging of their bows alerted the monster to their attack and it dodged most of the arrows missed as they imbedded themselves in the ground where it stood, not one came near Avena. He noted the arrow with black and green fletching, his arrow, sticking out of the back of its neck, another one of Aurelia's had hit its flank.

Even with these wounds the beast was not done as it searched for someone to attack, unfortunately its eyes fell on Jacob as Tray guessed they would. The kid seemed to attract trouble like a moth to a flame or a bad cold that never seemed to go away. Before the beast charged arrows were once again in the air, his first pierced the ear on the jackal's head in an attempt to distract it as Aurelia's hit its wing. Tray selected a heavier tipped arrow, one designed for piercing and breaking bone, knocked it, and launched it toward the wing straight for the joint. The jackel had not paid their attack any mind, so furious was it that it ignored the pain, bent on exacting its revenge upon the boy bellow. This time Tray did not feel fear, Avena was down their and he knew that she would protect him, all he had to do was continue attacking from above. With a deadly calmness and procession born from years of combat and hunting Tray once again draw an fired, careful to keep track of both people down bellow. He didn't want to hit his allies. Seeing the area where the blood stained the creature's flanks Tray sent arrows hissing towards its flanks, each one destined for a different spot on its rump and back legs. Like Avena he wanted to disable to giant beast and prevent it from trying to attack or escape as it surely would with so many overwhelming attacks being launched at it.

Aurelia's sharp eyes watched the movements of the other members of Tray's hunting party, another arrow knocked in her bow. She winced as Avena severed the chimeras tail, a bloodcurdling scream filling the air. The monster began to whip itself into a frenzy, not knowing who to attack first.

Her expression turned to horror as the monster turned its attention to Jacob. She had a sinking feeling that the boy might not be able to protect himself, and let a couple more arrows fly at the beast. Her mouth quirked into a small smile as she saw Tray had done to same. Her arrow buried itself in the chimeras wing, close to it's shoulder.

After that Aurelia's mind went into combative mode. She was painfully aware of everything around her, from the monster to the people on the ground to her ally beside her. She knocked two more arrows and sent them flying at the the jackal head, her eyes narrowed in concentration.

The beast must not escape to open ground.

OOC: Uhg, sorry for the short, terrible post.

Jacob watched intently and readied himself for battle as Avena raced over to the beast and attacked. It dodged the worst of her first attack, but it was not so lucky on the second swing of the sword. The boy covered his ears as the Chimera let out another ear splitting scream, but it soon stopped, and he uncovered his ears and continued watching. Horror struck him as the beast attacked Avena. It would be terrible if any of those attacks hit. Jacob began running toward the fight, but the volley of arrows beat him to it. He stopped and watched as the creature dodged most of the arrows, but two of them embedded themselves into the beast. The Chimera began looking around for an easier target, pure furry in it's eyes. And Jacob froze as it's gaze landed on him, and it began charging toward him. Some more arrows hit it, but it was not to be stopped that easily. The boy took a few steps back as it came closer. Trying to push his fear down and stay calm in this dire situation, he waited for the right moment, then, he reached into his jacket, his hands a blur, and was soon holding a razor sharp knife in each hand. Not wasting a second, Jacob flung both knives with all his might, aiming for the two eyes of the Bobcat head, before taking off to his left as fast as he could.
